I have been living in New Zealand since 1999. I have got Double Degree in International Business and economics, from China | a Bachelor of Business in Accounting from AUT| a Diploma in Business from AUT| a Diploma in Legal Executive from Open Polytechnic of New Zealand, | and a Graduate Certificate in Arts Translation and Interpretation from AUT. I am currently a Bachelor of Laws student in AUT Part-three.
I have experience in working with families and people in vulnerable circumstances. I can quickly build rapport with various people from diverse backgrounds and lifestyles, including adults and children. I am a competent Bilingual translator and interpreter in English and Mandarin. My passion is being a Bilingual litigator and helping others who have a language barrier to succeed in disputes. My approach focuses on developing a realistic understanding of the client's needs in both English and Mandarin. I have been through the burdens of life and can stand in clients' shoes and work with client's needs.
I am proudly awarded the Certificate of Interpreting in Aotearoa New Zealand- The Public Sector Context. I am a registered Legal Interpreter for the Ministry of Justice, where I can help others with my bundle of skills. I am a committee member at Auckland Women Lawyers Association and New Zealand Society of Translators and Interpreters Auckland Branch in 2024. I am a Support member of NZILE and an Ordinary member of the Australian Institute of Interpreters and Translators. I am a member of the New Zealand Asian Lawyers Association and the Criminal Bar Association.
Jessica proudly completed the Training with Shine that had been organised by the Ministry of Justice - New Zealand. It was an excellent opportunity for the translators and interpreters to receive this professional training. It is incredible to realise how Sexual violence, Gendered Violence, and Intimate Partner Violence are happening in our families and communities daily.
Jessica Harborne Accepts Role as Auckland NZSTI President
We are delighted to announce that Jessica Harborne has been nominated and has accepted the role of President of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Society of Translators and Interpreters (NZSTI).
Jessica is committed to fostering unity, professionalism, and excellence within the branch. Her vision focuses on strengthening connections across languages and disciplines, especially in legal translation and interpreting. She will organize targeted workshops and events to enhance skills in ethics, technology, terminology, and culture.
Jessica highlights the importance of engaging qualified translators and interpreters, particularly in legal settings. Misinterpretations—even by bilingual staff—can lead to miscarriages of justice, inadmissible evidence, or misleading the Court. Accredited professionals ensure accuracy, impartiality, confidentiality, and legal compliance, upholding the highest standards of the profession.
Under Jessica’s leadership, the Auckland branch of NZSTI will continue to be a connected, competent, and confident community dedicated to supporting and advancing translation and interpretation excellence.
